Cue Privacy Policy
The information below applies specifically to Cue. It does not describe data processing in other BARNEUM products.
Last updated: 2026-10-03
BARNEUM LLC ("we") operates Cue. Cue helps users understand conversations, generate suggested replies and openers, and review profiles.
Data We Process
- Screenshots selected by the user and text extracted on device with Apple Vision OCR.
- Conversation context, profile text, and memory the user chooses to apply to a generation.
- Safe style signals such as preferred length, punctuation, emoji use, selected strategy, and outcome.
- Subscription product and entitlement status supplied by Apple StoreKit.
- Product interaction and technical reliability events that do not contain screenshots, OCR text, memory, or generated replies.
- Apple Ads campaign attribution information when the app is installed from an Apple Ads campaign.
AI Processing
Before the first AI action, Cue asks for explicit permission to send selected content and relevant context through Cue's backend to the OpenAI API. The permission screen identifies OpenAI and explains the types of data involved. Declining or dismissing this screen cancels the action before content is sent. Users can review or withdraw permission in Settings → AI data sharing. Withdrawal applies to future actions and does not undo processing of content already submitted.
Depending on the requested feature, submitted content can include the selected screenshot, extracted conversation text, profile text, a chosen reply, and relevant conversation context. Memory and voice examples are included only when the corresponding personalization is enabled. Contact avatar photos are not sent for AI analysis.
Cue's backend does not use screenshots, OCR text, memory, or generated replies in analytics or server logs and does not act as their permanent storage.
To prevent duplicate quota charges when a request is retried, Cue may keep an encrypted replay of the result for up to 10 minutes. Request content is otherwise processed only for the requested AI action. Data is encrypted in transit.
Cue does not require an account. A device-level identifier is used for request security, quota enforcement, idempotency, subscription access, and product analytics. Cue does not use app data to track users across apps or websites and does not sell personal data.
Service Providers
Cue relies on service providers only where needed to operate the app:
- OpenAI processes content submitted for an AI action.
- Render hosts Cue's backend, and an encrypted short-lived data store supports idempotent request replay and quota safety.
- Apple provides StoreKit purchases, private iCloud synchronization when enabled by the user, push notifications, and Apple Ads attribution.
These providers process data under their own applicable terms and data-protection commitments. OpenAI's handling of API data is described at OpenAI API data handling. Cue's short-lived replay policy does not describe or override a provider's retention policy.
Data Retention
- People, contact photos, memory, outcomes, and generated history are stored with SwiftData. Depending on the user's device settings, this data may sync through the user's private iCloud account.
- Contact photos are for navigation and are not analyzed by Cue's backend. Like other saved person data, they may sync through the user's private iCloud account when synchronization is enabled.
- User-edited reply text is not retained as a voice sample unless the user separately opts in. Opted-in samples are kept in protected local storage and may be sent only when needed to personalize a generation.
- Ending a Cue Pro subscription does not delete people, photos, memory, or history.
- Users can delete local records from within the app and manage private iCloud data through their Apple account settings.
Notifications
Cue asks for notification permission only after the user explicitly chooses to receive a follow-up reminder. A reminder relates to a specific result and can be disabled in system settings at any time.
Purchases
Subscriptions and billing are handled by Apple. We do not store payment card data.
Your Choices
Users choose which screenshots and text to submit, whether to permit AI processing, whether to save a person, whether to enable memory and voice personalization, and whether to allow notifications. AI permission is saved on the current device and can be withdrawn in Settings without deleting saved conversations. Local people, memory, outcomes, photos, and history can be deleted in the app. Users may contact us to ask a privacy question or request assistance with data associated with Cue's backend services.
Changes
We may update this policy when Cue's features or service providers change. The updated date above identifies the latest version.
